Our Gatherings

  • Shared Meals

In the Black community it is a tradition to gather at the table. The Blackyard Collective brings Black queer people together to build a community support system so that we might find inspiration and encouragement. These shared meals are where we laugh, cry, and connect in community with one another.

  • Social Gatherings

The Blackyard Collective hosts social events that center Black queer survival and revival. Whether it’s going to the theater, visiting a museum exhibit, or participating in a march … we know that being together and supporting one another is vital. These social events are key to building and supporting our Black queer identities.

  • Spiritual Retreats

The Blackyard Collective hosts an annual fall retreat in Provincetown, MA at the John Randall House. The only Black-owned bed and breakfast in Provincetown. The annual retreat allows us to get outdoors to bike, hike, and unwind. The uninterrupted time allows us to connect on a deeper level as we share our lives, our struggles, and our joys.

  • Mutual Aid

Mutual aid is how we come together to meet each other's needs. The Blackyard Collective understands that the systems we live in are not meeting the needs of Black queer people. It is our goal to meet our needs together, without depending anti-Black systems of power to do the right thing.
