An Inspiring Discussion with Black Queer Folks in Recovery on Their Educational Journeys

Join us for a discussion featuring Black queer folks in recovery who are getting their GED, Associate’s, Bachelor's, Master's, PhD and EdD. We’ll talk about the practical steps of going back to school, as well as the emotional challenges—imposter syndrome, self-doubt, fear of failure—that can come with it. Learn how to use sober tools for support, connect with others on the same path, and access resources to help you along the way. Whether you're considering your first educational step or your next one, come be part of this Collective Conversation.

It’s Election Season!!!!

The Blackyard Collective is grateful for the generous service of members from the Black queer and trans recovery community. Starting an institution from the ground up is no small feat. Together we have established bylaws, created financial systems, pioneered fundraising strategies, and launched communication channels … all while hosting amazing gatherings and events. WE HAVE BEEN DOING THE MOST!

With a full heart and deep gratitude, I want to thank the BYC Advisory Board members who have fulfilled their two-year term:

I am equally grateful to the remaining Advisory Board members who have decided to continue their service for another term:

Michael Crumpler, Delano Burrowes, Chris Patterson-Rosso, Jacob Haigler, Henian Boone, Jamie Hunter, Wiafe Mensah-Bonsu, and Tyrone Carter

The final slate of nominees will be determined based on a variety of factors that will ensure a committed and diverse Advisory Board. These include: gender, location, skill, and experience. 

The nomination timeline is as follows: 

• MARCH 9th - 31st: Nominee submissions will be accepted via the Nomination Form.
  

• APRIL 1st - 12th: The Nomination Committee will review all submissions and contact potential nominees to schedule interview.
  

• APRIL 13th: The Nomination Committee will present the Advisory Board with a slate of nominees at the Board meeting on April 13th. 
  

• APRIL 14th - May 11th: The nominees will be announced to the community via the BYC newsletter and website.
  

• MAY 12th: Elections will be held at a BYC Board Elections Town Hall on Sunday, May 12th. Additional candidates may be nominated at the Town Hall. The three candidates who receive the highest number of votes from those present at the Town Hall will be installed to the Advisory Board.
  

• JUNE 1st: Newly elected Advisory Board members begin their two-year term.

***All Advisory Board members must identify as Black/African-American.
